Gene Chizik flew into Alabama today for his press conference about his recent hiring as head football coach at Auburn. Chizik was defensive coordinator for the Tigers from 2002-2004, in ‘04 Auburn went undefeated but remained out of the National Championship. Chizik is a surprising pick as he went 5-19 in two seasons with the Iowa State Cyclones. Chizik basically said in his interview that previous records aren’t necessary when proving your credentials for the job. They (Auburn) had interviewed other coaches with much better records such as Turner Gill, but passed them over. This may be a huge disapointment for Auburn fans.
