Indian President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, who is a scientist too, warned people against nuclear threats. While talking about the features of Kudankulam nuclear plant, Kalam emphasized on ways to avoid Fukushima-like accidents at this plant. Kudankulam plant is located in coastal area of Tamil Nadu State of India.
Kalam detailed about the plant, “Kudankulam plant has installed 154 Hydrogen recombiners across the plant which can absorb any leaked hydrogen and prevent any structural damage.” This development work of this plant has been under severe criticism by protesters and environmental activists.
The president stated that Kudankulam plant has separate controlling unit for every reactor, therefore the chances of reactor instability has been minimized.
Talking about the Japanese nuclear disaster, in which leakage of radioactive material from spent fuel caused a huge-scale destruction and casualties, the Indian president said that the structural collapse occurred after tsunami and failure of continuous power supply.
