The total 2011 list was compiled by the university from nominations which were submitted from across North America throughout the year.It was released on Friday.’Viral’ wasn’t the only word to bear the grunt, these nominators also nominated these — ‘Refudiate’,'fail’ and ‘wow factor’.In all, 14 words or phrases made their their way out of the dictionary.

The call to banish the word ‘viral’ was more vociferous, it gathered more nominations than any other ‘to be banned phrase’.One Kuahmel Allah of Los Angeles wrote in his submission, “”This linguistic disease of a term must be quarantined,”.It was seconded by Lawerence Mickel of Coventry, “Any mindless/crazy stunt is sent by is creators whirling around the Internet, once it is whirled, its creators declare it ‘Viral!’I have had enough of this crap already!.
