Woman Shoots Self for Health Care

Using a very backwards idea, a woman shoots her self for health care.

A woman from Niles, Indiana, who is reportedly out of work and unable to get health care, became so desperate for pain relief on Thursday, that she shot herself in hopes that the hospital would finally have to treat her for a shoulder injury which she said was causing her extreme pain.

Kathy Myers, who is 41 years old said that she injured her shoulder about a month ago while playing with her dogs in the backyard. She added that she has been treating the pan with pain medication, but it was becoming unbearable, and she could not afford to see a specialist because she does not have insurance.

Smoking a cigarette during the interview, Myers stated, “They said it would have to be life-threatening or imminent danger for them to do anything, so I was making it be imminent danger that something had to be done. I really didn’t accomplish what I hoped it would accomplish. I was really hoping it would hit an artery or bone so they would do the surgery and fix me, I have no suicide wish. My life sucks right now but I want to live. I’ve got lots to live for and there’s more good than bad in everything in my life, so that’s not what it was about at all… I just want to take the pain away.””

Since the bullet missed any major arteries or vital organs, she was sent home within hours. She did manage to get a prescription for pain medication, however, which was some relief to the woman, who had explained that when she went the the hospital for treatment before, she was unable to get “much more than a band aide and a pain shot.” She and her girlfriend are now waiting to see of she will face criminal charges for firing the weapon. For those who may become this desperate to get pain medication, the Niles Police Captain, James Millin issued the following warning: “I would hope that most people would understand this is the extreme and that they would not attempt something like this. “When a bullet enters your body, there’s no telling where it’s going to go.”
