Why Zachary Taylor was called Old Rough & Ready
Zachary Taylor was known as Old Rough & Ready for some fairly obvious reasons: Zachary Taylor was a famous general of the United States Army. He had served in four wars: War of 1812, the Black Hawk War, the Second Seminole War, and the Mexican-American War. It was the last one, the Mexican-American War which propelled Old Roughy and Ready to the national spotlight. He was quite unfamiliar with politics. He had never even voted for the President of the USA until he voted for himself. He was a hero of the Mexican-American War, especially the Battle of Monterrey and was elected President solely on this war experience.
