Why is Friday the 13 unlucky?
Why is Friday the 13 unlucky?
There are many theories as to how this came about.
The first one is from Norse mythology, when the 12 gods decided to throw a dinner party in Valhalla (heaven). All of a sudden the uninvited 13th guest Loki (the god of mischief) entered the party, he convinced the blind god of darkness, Hoder, to shoot the god joy and gladness, Balder the Beautiful with a mistletoe-tipped arrow. This then brought the earth to complete darkness, and was mourned by all.
That’s how supposedly the number phobia began. Don’t invite 13 guests to a dinner party, it’s un-even anyways.
Now as to why Friday has been included into the equation relates to several theories:
In Numerology, twelve is a complete number(12 months, 12 hours in the clock, twelve gods at Olympus, etc,) so thirteen jumps the complete cycle and is considered irregular. Friday is also considered unlucky because of things like Black Friday (the stock market crashing and certain disasters in the 1800s) as well as the day that Jesus Christ was crucified.
Why is Friday the 13 unlucky? The Friday The 13th Superstition – Put them both together and you have one ‘unlucky day’ where reportedly $800 or $900 million dollars is lost in business because people will refuse to fly or do business because of their phobia.
