Virginia Naked Trial
Police have arrested a man. The charge? Being naked. The catch? He was in his own home minding his own business.
At least that is what the media is saying of the story. The police arrested the man who is now standing trial for being “naked”, Eric Williamson, after a mother and her 7 year old son were walking through his front yard and saw his naked body from the window. Cops believe he wanted to be seen, as he was rather close to the window. Rather than being as harmless as the media would like you to believe, the cops seem to have reason to believe the man was purposefully exposing himself and was aware of the two people passing by.
The charge is “indecent exposure” and he is fighting it tooth and nail. His fight and the exposure over the issue alone and the way it is being portrayed by the media (the “Virginia Naked Trial”, being going to trial over being naked) rather than the more likely scenario of a man parading himself nude in front of his window to a mother and young child, may give insight to the issue at root here: is it legal to be naked in your own home? Most say yes. But even if that nudity bothers another, or you purposefully bother them with it? Then many would have a different perspective on the issue.
It may be hard to get the truth of the story. The man claims he was merely making coffee in his kitchen, while the mother and child seem to think he was purposefully being indecent. His defense is airtight, as it may be impossible to prove he intended to be seen naked.
