United States Figure Skating Team Dies on Sabena Flight 548

It’s known as one of the worst tragedies in United States’ history. It’s February 15th, 1961 when the entire United States figure skating team dies on Sabena Flight 548, headed to the World Championships in Prague. The 72 people on board were all killed in the crash, as well an unfortunate person on the ground. The crash took place in Brussels, Belgium while they were en route to Prague, Czech Republic, which was then known as Czechoslovakia (before Slovakia seceded) and a part of the Soviet Bloc of Communist countries in Eastern Europe.
