Unicyclist Lawsuit

After being issued a ticket in New York City, a circus unicyclist has filed a federal lawsuit against the city. Kyle Peterson was given the ticket in 2007, cited with using a “two or three wheeled device” on the sidewalk.

Peterson filed the $3 million lawsuit claiming that the city violated his rights, and that he wanted the freedom to use his unicycle.

The lawsuit includes charges of “False Arrest, False Imprisonment and Malicious Prosecution.” Attorney Paul Hale who is representing the circus performer said in a statement, “It’s a sad state that he has to sue, but that is the only way the police will listen and begin respecting his and other New Yorker’s rights.”

The City of New York is fighting the lawsuit, stating that the safety of sidewalk pedestrians is its top priority, and that the difference a unicycle and a bicycle in this respect “is negotiable.”
