Taco Bell: Christine
Christine Dougherty has come up with a bizarre diet that involves Mexican fast food chain Taco Bell.
Taking a page out of Subway’s playbook, the fast food chain has found a real-life woman who claims she lost a significant amount of weight by following a Taco Bell oriented diet. I’m guessing it didn’t include those gargantuan 32-oz sodas—how can anyone drink a whole one of those anyway?
Here’s the woman’s claim: she stuck to a 1,250-calorie diet made up of items from the eatery’s ‘diet’ menu. The lifestyle change apparently helped Christine drop 54 pounds in a relatively short amount of time. Now the chain is capitalizing off of her story, and will feature pictures of her on the actual drive-thru menu and on their website.
Television ads are also running, wherein Christine makes the case for giving the diet a try. In them, she says:
“The Drive-Thru Diet menu is not a weight-loss program. It’s about making different choices. I didn’t want to cut out my fast food, so I started choosing Fresco items from the Drive-Thru Diet menu and making other sensible choices.”
It does worry me a bit that people may begin to believe that they can become healthier WITHOUT cutting out fast food. That seems a bit delusional, but it may be worth a try.
In any case, the fast-serve restaurant already seems to have the budget minded consumer in their pockets. With most other fast-food joints cutting back on their budget menus, they recently stepped up their ’79, 89, 99’ deal—it really is cheaper.
We’ll just have to wait and see if their new spokeswoman can turn out to be the profits boon that good ‘ole Jared was for Subway. If this works, we may have a slimmer, perhaps more gassy populace.
