Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis abbreviation is ALS and it is also called as Lou Gehrig’s disease in North America. It is the form of motor neuron disease. This is fatal and progressive disease and it caused by degeneration of motor neurons. New York Yankees baseball player has diagnosed by this disease at 1939 and after that it has got the name “Lou Gehrig’s disease”. Upper and lower motor neuron degeneration is the sign of the problem. Muscle weakness is the reason of this disease. This is neurological disorder and it attacks on nerve system.

Dr. Stephen Hawking is the scientist who has fought against ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis). He has teaching in England for decades. He has born on January 8, 1942 in England. When he was diagnosed of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis that time he was only twenty one years old. In seventy’s age, the disease start giving more problem and he needed help for feeding and walking.

In this time, Dr. Stephen is almost paralyzed and he has to use motor wheel chair for computerized voice synthesizer for speaking. He is extraordinary man and he has very caring and loving wife with three children.
