Robert Gates Warns
In recent news, Robert gates warns the White house that the U.S. doesn’t have the means to stop Iran’s nuclear plans or counter an Iranian nuclear attack.
It has recently been reported that the Defense Secretary of the United States, Robert Gates, had sent a memo to the White House in January that sparked a flurry of activities in the White House. The three page memo, which was sent in January, outlined the idea that the United States lacked the power or adequate plans to counter a nuclear attack by Iran. The memo also outlined that the United States did not even have the ability to stop the country from developing a nuclear weapon. The memo is being deemed as a wake up call by most of the officials in the White House. However, the defense secretary himself denied this.
Defense Secretary Robert Gates said that he had not meant to send the memo as a wake-up call, and insisted that his intentions had been misconstrued by the officials. He said that the memo, which had been sent to the National Security Adviser, had indeed been about the nuclear situation on Iran, and the State of the United States’ competency to deal with it, but he denied that it was nothing on the nature of a wake-up call.
Instead, he emphasized that it was actually in the way of a policy document, laying down propositions of dealing with a possible nuclear threat. However, his claims do not find much support, as most of the sources claim that it was indeed meant as a warning to the administration. However, support did come in the form of the Republicans, and mostly, John McCain, who felt that the memo was only a reminder of the poor security policy of the administration.
