Philanthropy 400 Report $68.6 billion contributions
A report on the 400 largest charitable organizations showed an 11 percent overall decline in fund raising last year. The overall tally in the Philanthropy 400 Report was a whopping $68.6 billion contributions, but that was less than the year before, by far. The decline was the worst seen in over 20 years, but is in line with the recession’s effect on the average person’s pocketbooks as many of the former givers lose jobs or have cuts in pay. One bright spot was that the Salvation Army broke their fund raising record for the Christmas season with their famous red kettle campaign.
