Paris Sewer Tour

The sewer system in Paris was introduced in 1370 as the underground system was built under Rue Montmartre. This was the first underground system in the city. Slowly and gradually the authorities broadened this sewer system in order to facilitate the whole population of the city. River Seine was the key provider in the city to provide the drinking water to the population of Paris. People used to throw away the wastewater into fields or in the rough streets without pavements. That was how the water filtered back into the river. The streets in Paris were paved during the reign of Philippe Auguste in 1200 and integrated the consuming system for the waste water in the center of those paved streets. Louis XIV introduced the concept of large ring sewer during his reign.
