Obama’s Jeep & Auction
Apparently Obama’s old Jeep sold at auction for $26K!
It pays to have the name Obama. A recent auction sold the president’s old vehicle for well over its value.
The president’s used Jeep Cherokee was auctioned off with the steep price tag of $26,437.50. The former owner of the Jeep Cherokee said that she purchased the vehicle in September of 2004 for $15,000 at a used car dealer in La Grange, Ill. She said that she made a copy of the papers with Barack Obama’s name on them just incase he became president one day. The Jeep Cherokee’s paperwork reads: “Barack Obama/5450 S. East View Park/Chicago, IL 60615.” According to the paperwork, the future president purchased the vehicle on August 26, 2000.
It seems that the paperwork on the vehicle is worth more than the vehicle itself as the Kelly Blue Book value of the Jeep Cherokee is listed as $3,500. The former owner of the vehicle, Liz Murphy, will take home $20,250 after paying the auctioneer’s commission.
The winner of the auction is John Reznikoff. He is a collector of presidential artifacts. His current collection, which now includes Obama’s former Jeep, consists of two parade cars of John F. Kennedy, Ronald Reagan’s rocking chair, and the sports coat of Lyndon Johnson.
