North Korea Threatens Military Action

North Korea threatens military action if South Korean forces carry out live-fire drills on the disputed maritime border as planned.

Yeonpyeong island, the island which had recently come under attack from the North, sometime between Saturday and Tuesday was declared as the place where live artillery exercises would be conducted by Seoul on Thursday.North Korea returned this announcement by stating that if the planned drills go ahead they would respond ‘decisively’.This statement was carried out by the official Korean Central news agency.North Korea said that this ‘decisive’ action would be more serious than the November 23rd attacks which killed 2 soldiers,2 civilians and injured 18 others.

The Navies of South Korea and the US have been carrying out several maritime drills over the disputed peninsula for quite some time. For those who have completely no idea, the 1950-53 conflict between these two countries ended in a cease-fire, leaving both of them technically at war.
