National Poetry Month

National Poetry Month

National poetry month was introduced in order to spread the knowledge regarding poetry. This concept was established in 1996 by the Academy of American Poets. The purpose behind was to promote the significance of poetry in United States. The month of April is dedicated to the legend poets and their master pieces in the form of poetry. The month gives a huge applause to the innovative piece of writing in the world of poetry. And that’s how poetry relives across the states and regains its importance. April has been celebrated in United States as well as Canada since 1999 while Britain celebrates the poetry month in October. The motivational force behind introducing the national month for poetry was the success of Black history month which has been celebrated in February every year. Women’s history month was another inspirational force behind the founding of the poetry month. A special poster has been released by the Academy of American Poets each year. Two million copies of the poster are distributed across the town free of cost. The poster has been designed every year by the famous graphic experts and designers.
