Moammar Gadhafi, Leader of Libya Since 1969: Muammar Al-Gaddafi & Female Bodyguards?

Moammar Gadhafi, leader of Libya since 1969, has been reported on for something odd in the Muslim world: it has been said that Muammar Al-Gaddafi employed female bodyguards. The entire staff of hundreds of female bodyguards are reportedly all virgins. The reasons for employing the guards are often guessed at but not clearly known. As with any dictator, security is of the utmost importance, so there must be a practical consideration besides simply having “hot” bodyguards. Perhaps Moammar Al-Gaddafi believed females are more dependable and less likely to involve themselves in plots against his life. Whatever the reason Gadhafi, the leader of Libya since 1969, has for employing the hundreds of young virgins as bodyguards (often called the “Amazonian Guard”), it certainly distinguishes him from other heads of state.
