One crazy man had 44 lizards in his pants!

The would-be smuggler was making an attempt to sneak the lizards out of New Zealand and as they are protected, he was in real trouble.

The Associated Press reports a German man named Hans Kurt Kubus, 58, was caught with the lizards sewn in his underwear in a pouch! The idea failed when he tried to board an airplane and was busted by wildlife officials at Christchurch International Airport in December.

According to the report the man will now get a room in jail for a few months and “will spend 14 weeks behind bars and must pay a 5,000 New Zealand dollar ($3,540) fine before being deported to Germany as soon as he is released.”

Department of Conservation prosecutor Mike Bodie says the lizards are worth about $2,800 in Europe.
