Liberace Museum: Lack Visitors, Steady Income Decline, Mortgage Debt — Costumes, Cars, Pianos, Candelabra, & Jewelry

Liberace Museum: Lack Visitors, Steady Income Decline, Mortgage Debt — Liberace’s Costumes, Cars, Pianos, Candelabra, & Jewelry Need New Home.

The Liberace Museum is shutting down it’s doors. Why? They reported a “steady decline” in visitors: 50,000 annually today compared to 450,000 annually in it’s heyday. The Liberace Museum also reported a steady decline in their income which correlates to their lack of visitors, and they have a burdensome interest rate with their large mortgage debt. While many are hailing it as the “end of an era” for Liberace fans, that era may not be the end of being able to view Liberace: his stuff (Liberace’s Costumes, Cars, Pianos, Candelabra, & Jewelry were on display in the Museum) won’t disappear and is sure to draw viewers to whatever venue they end up at. Rather this could be the end of an era for a museum in need of a downsizing. The arts face hard struggles in economically difficult times, as people who aspire to frankly, “luxury” professions (the millions of aspiring artists, directors, etc.) and run businesses focusing on luxuries like the arts, naturally struggle to make ends meet and may have to work in a profession related to one of the daily “necessities”: food, clothes, and shelter. The reason is simple, if people have to choose between food or tickets to a Liberace Museum, food wins out every time: except for the most die-hard fans.
