Kama Sutra Virus: More Than 300,000 Core Systems Infected.
The Kama Sutra virus, a new computer worm is spreading and is unusual in many ways. First it is unusual for the way the e-mails are worded, but also for what the virus does. Rather than being motivated by money, it is motivated by evil and malice. The virus is designed to stay hidden, not noticeable until this Friday, when it will activate and seek out and destroy all of the cherished and important things humans have on their computers: Photos and other Adobe Photoshop images, Microsoft Word documents, Excel spreadsheets, PDFs, and ZIP folders. The financial damage of destroying the excel spreadsheets and PDFs, for example on company computers, is estimated to be potentially millions of dollars. The sentimental damages of erasing millions of personal photos, letters, or other things, may also be devastating.
Authorities warn that the Kama Sutra e-mails often contain the subjects: ‘Do you recognise this person?’, ‘CCTV still of Rapist’, or ‘Campus Student Raped’. If you see these, experts warn to not open them.
Do not open these e-mails or their attachments and be careful in case they operate under different subject lines. Be sure to have an antivirus software installed and to be actively using the antivirus protections. For those without any currently, free anti-malware services like MalwareBytes or free anti-virus programs like Avast are a good place to start. Investing in paid antivirus software may be an even better option. Viruses have almost never been so malicious and directed at average citizens as this one.
