Iowa Hill California Gets First Time Phone Service -- $2.5 Million California Public Utilities Commission Grant. Pew Study: 85 Percent Adults have Cell Phones
A small California town gets phone service for the first time. The small town located on the outskirts of the Tahoe National Forest in Northern California had received a $2.5 Million Grant from the California Public Utilities Commission. However, the service was not necessarily of the utmost practicality and is a surprising use of funds in the relatively bankrupt state. Why? Pew Study results: 85 percent adults have cell phones. As more people have cell phones, installing phone services at a high cost of millions in small towns during an economic recession shows that government spending remains quite large -- porky, one might say.
