Hillary Clinton: Drones
Hillary Clinton faced an angry audience in Pakistan, as drones entered their country and killed civilians. Viewed as an invader from what is supposed to be an allied nation, Clinton was given a hard time. Many Pakistanis view the fight against Al Qaeda as the “United States’ war”.
One woman asked her to define terrorism. “Is it the killing of people in drone attacks?” she said. Hillary Clinton claimed that it is not terrorism. The Pakistanis were upset with this response as they cannot see the difference as the drone attacks are, from their perspective, violence from a foreign country that resulted in the death of civilians, much as the 9/11 attacks were viewed in the United States, albeit with fewer casualties. The audience claimed the drone attacks were “executions without trial”. Hillary was embarked on a 3 day tour of the region. Pakistan’s Geo TV anchor Sana Bucha told Clinton in an interview “It is not our war. It is your war.” then Sana recieved applause when she stated: “You had one 9/11. We are having daily 9/11’s in Pakistan.”
