The fake Elvis note was exchanged somewhere in the German system for real currency.
According to the UK Daily Mail, the German Central Bank “displayed it and several others in Frankfurt this week as specimens of the 60,000 fakes which managed to get into the country’s monetary system last year.”
‘Obviously it is a fraud but it entered the banking system so someone got some real money for it,’ said a bank spokesman.
The report notes that novelty banknotes of Elvis and a variety of other celebrities, and the software used to make them, can be bought online and even at auction house eBay for souvenirs and the images feature a wide variety ranging from Katy Perry to Yoda.
