Church Bars Mormons Cub Scouts
Christ Covenant Church in North Carolina now bars and makes Mormon Cub Scouts’ leaders step down for not being ‘real Christians’.
Jeremy and Jody Stokes sons were a part of a Cub Scout troop at Christ Covenant Church (Presbyterian). Once it was discovered that the Stokes were part of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, the churches member were in shock and some even called the Stokes satanists. The protested to have the Stokes step down as Cub Scout leaders.
“I can’t believe they had the audacity to say, ‘You can’t be leaders but we want your boys,’” Jodi Stokes said. “Are you kidding me? Do you really think I’d let my boys go there now?”
A spokesperson for the church said that they were taking actions to “assure that our parameters for leaders are clearly defined and well-communicated to volunteers and those interested in leadership roles for church sponsored programs such as the Boy Scouts.”
An interesting take on this is one from the Boy Scouts of America:
According to Mark Turner, who is executive director of the Mecklenburg County Council of the Boy Scouts of America, says that Christ Covenant Church is well within its rights to accept or deny whomever they want into the Cub Scout program. Apparently scout groups are chartered in synagogues and mosques in Mecklenburg County.
So I’m sure there is a nearby Mormon church where the boys can find a Boy Scouts program. Their is slogan “always be prepared,” well it seem nothing could prepare both the Stokes and Christ Covenant Church for this debacle.
