Carla Franklin has won a court case that the Google-owned Youtube hand over the personal information of whoever posted unauthorized videos on Youtube, as they had coupled personal information with her student film to create an “unsettling online shrine”. The case bears similiarities to a similar case in which Liskula Cohen sues Google for the personal information and identity of a blog owner of “Skanks in NYC” on the Google-owned “Blogger” service (for a libel suit) a blog of which she said, “It’s petty, it’s stupid and it’s pathetic”. Carla Franklin’s case shines light on how individual citizens can, with existing laws, fight back against a “cyberbully”. But sometimes the cyberbully can take things to a new low of indecency. The neighbors of the dying child Kathleen Edward each became a cyberbully of an unthinkable level: the victim of the adult cyberbully was their 7 year old neighbor who was dying of Huntington’s disease. They mocked her with a picture of her in front of a skull and bones background.
