The newly crowned Miss Delaware – Kayla Martell is bald and beautiful.

However she isn’t bald, because she wants to make a style statement, but rather she has no choice in that matter. She suffers from an autoimmune disease known as alopecia, which attacks the hair follicles and makes people go bald.

Kayla has had this disease for more than a decade now, and has been bald for the last 10 years. However her baldness doesn’t affect her chirpy and bubbly personality at all, and she is all set to pursue her dreams, despite being bald.

She was crowned with the prestigious beauty title on the 12th of June. She also revealed that her inspiration was a little 5-year-old girl known as Lilliana Hakim, who also suffers from the same ailment.

Miss Delaware Kayla appeared on the ‘The Early Show’ with Lilliana Hakim and recounted their struggle with the disease. The host of the show was Erica Hill.

“For me, I was just very confident in myself because of the great family and friends that I have. And, you know, I think I was a better person because of the faith that I had. It didn’t make me nervous to go out without the wig for any reason,” Kayla said.
