3 Charged in Mauritius Honeymoon Murder
3 men were charged in the Mauritius honeymoon murder of Michaela Harte. The men were hotel employees of Legends and are accused of killing the Irish woman.
Two men who worked at the luxury Legends Hotel in Mauritius where Michaela Harte was on her honeymoon and killed have been charged with murder. A third suspect was charged Wednesday with conspiracy to murder. The 27-year-old Irish teacher died just two days after arriving on the Indian Ocean island nation.
Authorities said Harte had been dragged into the bath tub and strangled before the water was turned on. A hotel key had been used to enter her room. She was the daughter of a prominent manager in Gaelic football, Mickey Harte, and had married Gaelic footballer John McAreavey on December 30.
The pair had been on their honeymoon in Mauritius where the 3 men were employed. “I can’t describe in words how lost I feel as Michaela is not just the light of my life -- she is my life,” John McAreavey said in a statement. “My beautiful wife, my best friend, my rock Michaela, has been taken from me and I still can’t take it in.”
Our thoughts and prayers go out to the widower and the Micheala’s family.
