Jamie Bell & Spider-Man

Jamie Bell is being looked at for the lead role in the fourth ‘Spider-Man’ film.

Jamie Bell is in the running to star in the new ‘Spider-Man’ movie.

The British actor is the frontrunner to star in a reboot of the franchise which will see the lead character Peter Parker back in his school days.

Other actors also being considered include Alden Ehrenreich, Frank Dillane, Josh Hutcherson and Andrew Garfield, according to The Hollywood Reporter’s Heat Vision Blog.

Jamie would take on the role from Tobey Maguire -- who played the comic book hero in the three previous films.

Still best known for his breakthrough role in ‘Billy Elliot’, Jamie has played parts in a number of Hollywood blockbusters in recent years, including ‘King Kong’ in 2005 and ‘Defiance’ in 2008.

If he were to take on the ‘Spider-Man’ franchise, it would be the second comic book adaptation he will be working on in coming months -- the 24-year-old leading man is also due to star as the titular character in ‘The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn’, set for release in 2011.

The fourth ‘Spider-Man’ project will be directed by ‘(500) Days of Summer’ filmmaker Marc Webb, and is tentatively planned to hit cinemas in 2012.
