Wyclef Jean has confirmed he will run for the Haitian Presidency. However, he has US tax matters at hand, according to The Smoking Gun the musician owes the IRS more than $2.1 million.

WPIX reports the IRS reportedly hit Jean with a $724,332 tax lien this past May, one of multiple liens tied to Jean’s individual 1040 returns dating back to 2006.

On his run for office in his home country, Jean has told Time Magazine that witnessing first-hand the devastation in his homeland compelled him to move into the political arena.

“If not for the earthquake, I probably would have waited another 10 years before doing this,” the 37-year-old said. “The quake drove home to me that Haiti can’t wait another 10 years for us to bring it into the 21st century.

“If I can’t take five years out to serve my country as President then everything I’ve been singing about, like equal rights, doesn’t mean anything.”
