Monjack Murphy Coroner

Simon Monjack’s cause of death was acute pneumonia and severe anemia according to a Los Angeles County Coroner spokesman, just like his wife Brittany Murphy. The 39-year-old was found dead in his Hollywood home in May.

Prescription drugs had been found in the screenwriter’s system, but not in lethal levels according to Assistant Chief Coroner Ed Winter. Monjack’s wife, actress Brittany Murphy had died in similar circumstances in December of last year.

Murphy’s mother Sharon Murphy said in a statement, “It is with great relief that Simon’s preliminary autopsy findings have been released, so the media speculations can stop. As I was sure of, just like my daughter Brittany, there was no kind of drug overdose.”

His full autopsy reports will be released in about two weeks following one more test to be conducted at his family’s request. Brittany Murphy died from a combination of pneumonia, an iron deficiency, and multiple drug intoxication.
