Mario Batali Sued
“Iron Chef” Mario Batali has been sued by two ex-employees who claim they were cheated out of their wages while working at his restaurant.
The celebrity chef and his Babbo restaurant co-owner Joseph Bastianich apparently failed to pay their staff their due salary.
According to the New York Post, former waitress Stephanie Capsolas and kitchen runner Hernan Ricardo Alvarado brought their class-action case to the Manhattan federal court, claiming they were not paid their salaries and overtime payments while working at the eatery.
They were also allegedly illegally forced to share their tips with other workers who weren’t entitled to the gratuities.
They want unspecified damages for themselves and other “similarly situated” co-workers.
Lawyer Maimon Kirschenbaum told the trade, “It is sad to see a prestigious employer line his pockets with money belonging to the little guys.”
Batali and Bastianich are named co-defendants along with Babbo’s corporate parent.
