Dwayne Johnson: Violent Youth

Unknown to many fans, Dwayne Johnson was actually a violent youth when he was growing up in Hawaii.

Dwayne Johnson, the actor once known as WWE wrestler “The Rock,” confesses to fighting a lot when he was younger in Hawaii. Johnson lived on the Pacific island among a group of youths, who would always get in to fights, but then make up later.

“I was just always into violence when I was younger. I was just a real violent kid,” Johnson told PopEater. “But growing up in Hawaii, it’s always lots of fighting and then everybody makes up--I love you, you love me, let’s have a beer; what about a barbecue?”

While many violent types come from troubled home lives, Johnson admits that his family life was considerably better. “I didn’t come from a broken home, I had very loving parents. I was just making poor decisions.”

Johnson returns to the action genre with his latest film, the hard-edged revenge thriller “Faster.” The role is a departure from family-friendly turns such as “The Gameplan” and “Tooth Fairy.” Johnson co-stars with Oscar winner Billy Bob Thornton.

In an interview with Total Film magazine, Johnson said, “I wanted to break out of the action genre. I stopped and said, ‘I’d like to do a comedy next,’ Then I’d like to do a little drama. It was just a matter of just resetting for a moment, taking a beat.”
