Brad Pitt  & Angelina Jolie were awarded damages over a false tabloid report. Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt accepted an undisclosed sum of money as part of a settlement. The tabloid made allegations that Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie were separated.

The undisclosed sum of money was a settlement of their privacy claim against the News of the World tabloid. The couple sued the newspaper over a story saying they would separate and had agreed custody arrangements. Appearing in London’s high court, the couple’s lawyer said that News Group Newspapers now accepted the allegations were “false and intrusive.”

The couple were not present for the hearing. “In consequence, when the News of the World failed to publicly retract the allegations and apologize for them, thereby leaving their readers in the dark as to the true position, the couple felt they had no alternative than to sue,” Keith Schilling said in a statement. “Today’s victory marks the end of the litigation brought by Brad and Angelina.”

Pitt and Jolie were the victims of false claims. The couple appeared at the 2010 NFL Super Bowl, hugging and kissing, just weeks after the newspaper published the allegations. When the newspaper was confronted with the false reports, they continued running stories that were false.
