The Great American Smokeout Began
The Great American Smokeout will celebrate its 34th anniversary tomorrow, but exactly how The Great American Smokeout began depends on whose asked.
In 1977, the American Cancer Society held their first official version of the event. It was dedicated to encouraging all Americans to quite smoking and avoid many of the health problems that come along with it.
There are also claims back to 1971, when a local event in a Massachusetts small town gave birth to the idea.
Please join the brave people across the country Thursday in a death-defying act: quitting smoking, even for just one day -- Nov. 19.
