Lil Kim Sentenced: Lying, Grand Jury
(Lil Kim Sentenced: Lying, Grand Jury)
Lil Kim has been fined $50,000 and sentenced to a year and a day in prison for lying to a Grand Jury. The specific charge is perjury regarding a shootout in Manhattan. The Grand Jury system is a complicated one, different from the usual Jury system employed once the case goes to trial. Lil Kim found that out the hard way. One of the disadvantages for witnesses compelled to testify before them is that the Supreme Court has ruled that lawyers are not allowed to be present for witnesses at a Grand Jury trial. Lil Kim spoke about her lying before the grand jury: “At the time I thought it was the right thing to do but I now know it was wrong.” The shootout occurred near the radio station of Hot 97 (WQHT-FM) as Lil Kim’s group met a rival group, Capone-N-Noreaga. A dispute occurred which led to a shootout that left one injured.
