Rappers in Prison
(Rappers in Prison — DMX doing an interview in prison)
Here’s a partial list, not ranked in any order, of the many rappers in prison:
1. Mystikal, real name: Michael Lawrence Tyler, this rapper is currently serving six years of a sentence for sexual battery and extortion in the Louisiana State Prison sytem, specifically at the Elayne Hunt Correctional Facility.
2. Prodigy, A.K.A. Albert Johnson, the other half of the famous Mobb Deep, who has won attention for his unique views (in radio, songs, and interviews, he was opposing Barack Obama and supporting republican candidate Ron Paul) is now spending time in prison for possession of a firearm.
3. Turk, whose real name is Tab Virgil, Jr., had reached the top of the charts with his album ” Young & Thuggin’ “. In 2006, Turk was convicted of attempted murder of a Tennessee police officer that he shot in early 2004. An interview with one of his friends claims the police shot one another, “friendly fire” so to speak. The charge was dropped, but authorities prosecuted him for a different one. Turk was convicted of being a felon in possession of a firearm. His lawyers remarked on the case, in which they claimed officers failed to identify themselves and began fireing indiscriminately:
“There were 189 bullet holes in this small two bedroom apartment…the place looked like swiss cheese. These officers shot that place up and Turk didn’t get hit once. It was like divine intervention.”
To finish the list off is the rapper DMX, whose real name is Earl Simmons, who may or may not be in prison whenever the viewer reads this article. DMX has been in prison on and off this past year. The rapper has been arrested in the past for drug possession, theft, animal cruelty, assault, marijuana possession, attempted aggravated assault, driving without a license, and is suspected of using a false name and social security number to avoid paying medical expenses.
