Suzanne Somers ‘Knockout’ Book
Suzanne Somers newest book ‘Knockout’ is sparking a heated debate in the health industry over which treatment is appropriate for cancer patients.
Somers even went on “Oprah” to promote bioidentical hormones rather than the normal treatments.
This book deals with an even more emotional topic: Cancer treatment. Specifically, Somers argues against chemotherapy, a procedure she deems as widespread and worthless.
“Cancer’s an epidemic,” the 63-year-old actress told the Associated Press in an interview in a Manhattan hotel a day before Tuesday’s release of “Knockout,” her 19th book. “And yet we keep going back to the same old pot, because it’s all we’ve got. Well, this is a book about options.
The American Cancer Society is concerned.
“I am very afraid that people are going to listen to her message and follow what she says and be harmed by it,” Dr. Otis Brawley, the organization’s chief medical officer told the AP. “We use current treatments because they’ve been proven to prolong life. They’ve gone through a logical, scientific method of evaluation.” Doctors wonder if Suzanne Somers even knows there IS a logical, scientific method.
“I laugh when they call me a quack,” said Somers, who rubs hormones on her arms, injects them vaginally and takes some 60 supplement pills each day. Somers says she is not trying to play doctor but to share with women what worked for her.
If she can find a way to solve the proplem without radiation that would be for the best. However, it remains to be proven through enough testing.
