Nuns: $193 million

“The Sisters of Mercy”, a Roman Catholic order of nuns, has offered $193 million in reperations for child abuse. Over 18 Roman Catholic orders were found guilty of chronic child abuse. The nuns offered this apology to their victims, that the order “wholeheartedly regrets the suffering experienced by the children in their care”. A nine-year state investigation by the Irish government (which is overwhelmingly Roman Catholic itself) in May ruled that the Roman Catholic orders permitted and covered up endemic rape, molestation, beatings, as well as mental cruelty in their children’s institutions. This comes on the heels of many Roman Catholic priests child abuse accusations worldwide. In the United States, over 11,000 sexual abuse allegations have been made against 4,392 Roman Catholic priests, which puts it at a significantly higher percentage than the percentage of the society at large.
