Tipping Etiquette
In today’s age, tipping etiquette is rarely taught to young adults. This vital lesson is important for all to learn to ensure our service industry stay afloat.
It is customary to tip at least 15% at restaurants. If you had great service you should tip above that whatever you feel your waiter/waitress deserves.
At a hotel it is proper to tip the bellhop (if there is one) a dollar per bag, more if the bags are heavy. You should also leave a few bucks for the maids when they clean up of if you notice them finishing up.
On a limo or cab ride it is normal to tip about 10-15% of what the ride cost you.
If you get your drinks from a bartender, 10-15% is the normal gratuity.
At a hair salon is typical to tip 15-20% so that your stylist won’t hesitate to cut your hair or schedule you in for an appointment. It also shows that you appreciate the good job he/she did.
In summary, tipping is a way of showing appreciate for someone’s hard work. Some workers thrive off their tips, and tipping keeps the service industry itself thriving. If these jobs were just hourly, you wouldn’t get the same kind of quality service.
