Rush Probst Scandal

There had been rumors of a scandal with Hoover High School football coach Rush Probst. These allegations came to the media fore front when writer Hunter Ford went on the Paul Finebaum Show and made insinuations that coach Probst was having an affair. Hoover football has gained national attention to the show “Two-A-Days” that has aired on MTV. The show obviously circulates around the football program and the intense practices with their tough coach. The first season had John Parker Wilson in it, who is now famous as the star quarterback for Alabama who nearly went perfect this year. His older brother Ross Wilson played quarterback in college as well.

The writer Hunter Ford was fired from his job as a sports writer for not being able to prove the allegations. Finebaum ignored all the jokes and metaphors Ford was saying pertaining to two-a-days and having an affair. Probst resigned from his head coaching position at the end of his team’s run in the 2007 playoffs.

John Travolta’s Son Jett

A sad day today as John Travolta’s son Jett died today. The family was on vacation in the Bahamas when Jett went into a seizure. The incident occured at the Old Bahama Bay Hotel on Grand Bahama Island.

Michael Oher Story

The story of Ole Miss offensive lineman Michael Oher is quite an intriguing one. Michael was found on the side of the road by the Tuohy couple driving by. Oher grew up in a Memphis housing project and nearly fell through the cracks before being adopted by Sean and Leigh Anne Tuohy. Sean Tuohy said during the Cotton Bowl that he “might not have pulled over” if it hadn’t been for his wife’s persistence. They raised him and taught him about religion and he got a scholarship to play for Ole Miss. Oher has had a great career with Ole Miss and is going pro this year. Getting drafted in the NFL would be a fitting ending to this great story. Michael had his life documented in the best seller, The Blind Side: Evolution of a Game.

NFL Blackout Rules

Here are the NFL rules when it comes to a blackout for NFL games including the playoffs:

Since 1973, the NFL has maintained a blackout policy that states that a home game cannot be televised locally if it is not sold out within 72 hours prior to its start time. Before 1973, all games were blacked out in their city of origin regardless of whether they were sold out. This rule, dating back to the NFL’s emerging years on television, resulted in home-city blackouts that even extended to championship games. For instance, the 1958 “Greates Game Ever Played” between the Baltimore Colts and New York Giants was not available on TV to New York fans despite the fact that tickets were out of reach to most. The Arizona Cardinals and Minnesota Vikings are trying to sell out their stadium for this year’s playoffs to avoid the harsh blackout rules. They are struggling to fill their respective stadiums.

Bernie Hamilton is Dead

The actor Bernie Hamilton who played the captain in “Starsky and Hutch” is dead at age 80. Hamiltion died of a cardiac arrest recently. Hamilton stared as Capt. Harold Dobey in the original comedic T.V. series. Captain Dobey’s role was to chew out Starsky and Hutch whenever they got into trouble. He has worked in a music production since then for label Chocolate Snowman. His funeral arrangments have yet to be announced.

Pat Devlin Transfer

The backup quarterback at Penn State, Pat Devlin will transfer out of the university. With two years left of eligibility Devlin will go play QB for Delaware. This comes as a surprise as Devlin was going to replace Daryll Clark next season since Clark is a senior. This could be because PSU plays a very conservative offense where they run the ball more often than pass. Or his choice may have been infuenced by Delaware star Joe Flacco who now plays in the pros for the Baltimore Ravens. The more NFL scouts see you play and throw TDs the better. Not a bad philosophy, but he still would have gained some recognition at Penn State.
