One Last Brave Act by Police Dog

Var the police dog has added one more brave arrest to his record — his last one.

Spokane police officers say the dog was on his last night of patrol before retirement when he cornered a teenager sought for investigation of murder.

A tip led officers to surround a house Sunday night, and in the ensuing search Officer Dan Lesser and Var found the 19-year-old suspect hiding in the basement.

Three other teens were being sought in connection with the stabbing death of 22-year-old Shannon Cochran.

It was Var’s last night on duty after 8 years in service. The dog retired Monday because of medical problems and his replacement, a German Shepherd from Germany named Cisco, was flown in the same day.

Man Found Burned In Apartment With No Sign Of Fire!

Investigators are baffled as to how a man suffered second- and third-degree burns inside his apartment — even though the only sign of a fire was a candle in the bathroom. Knoxville Fire Department crews found the 56-year-old victim inside his apartment bathroom Monday afternoon with third-degree burns to his face and second-degree burns to his hands.

Officials say they knocked on the door of the unit at Cagle Terrace Apartments, and went inside when they heard someone moaning.

The man, who was not identified, was later taken to a burn center for treatment.

Fire officials say their investigation is ongoing.

Where’s the cocaine? In the beef!

Italian customs police have arrested five people in separate drug busts, including two Brazilians who tried smuggling in cocaine hidden between packaged meat slices. Police at Rome’s Leonardo da Vinci airport said Tuesday they seized 33 pounds of the drug last week.

Police Lt. Giuseppe di Stasio said officers became suspicious when they found packages of red meat in the luggage of the Brazilian man and woman. Inspection showed small packets of cocaine had been hidden between the meat slices.

In a separate operation, police arrested three Argentines who tried to bring in cocaine in a hidden compartment of their suitcase.

Di Stasio said the drugs would have had a total street value of euro8 million ($10.4 million).

Cow Knocks Over Woman on Bike, Steps on Her Legs!

A woman escaped serious injury and refused medical treatment after a cow knocked her down and walked on her legs. Boulder Open Space and Mountain Parks ranger Pete Taylor said the woman was riding her bicycle along the South Boulder Creek Trail on Monday when she encountered the cow and stopped to let the animal cross.

Instead, the cow knocked the woman over and stepped on her legs.

Taylor said the woman wasn’t seriously hurt. Her name was not released.

The cow had left the area by the time rangers arrived, but other people warned fellow bikers and hikers on the trail about the animal.

Boulder Mountain Bike Alliance vice president Jason Vogel called the incident “odd, rare and random.”

Man asks to be deported, then kicks police car!

Police on Long Island arrested a man after he allegedly kicked a police car and asked to be deported back to his home country of Guatemala. Police said the 27-year-old man called the Southold Police Department early Sunday and asked to be arrested so he could be deported.

Police said that when officers arrived at the scene, they told him he could not be arrested because he had not committed a crime.

That’s when, according to police, the man kicked the driver’s side door of their patrol car. The man was arrested and charged with fourth-degree criminal mischief.

Why do we give him a free ride back is my question?

Hines Ward Injury

Steelers receiver Hines Ward left last night’s AFC Championship game in the first quarter with a right knee injury and didn’t return, but he said he doesn’t envision the injury keeping him out of Super Bowl XLIII. It was a hard hitting defensive battle in last night game.

Ward told the press the injury is only “a little sprain” and he will return in time for the Super Bowl

“It was a typical, hard-hitting, physical game. It’s the way every Baltimore-Pittsburgh game is. Sometimes guys get hit so hard, you don’t know if they’re going to get up.”

Willis McGahee Injury Report

Willis McGahee was hit hard by a ‘helmet to helmet hit’ from Ryan Clark on Sunday’s AFC Championship game. The Raven’s running back said he felt “significant neck pain” after the hit. McGahee’s neck had snapped way back and this could have lead to a serious injury. He was able to move his feet and arms, so thankfully he is not paralyzed. He had to be carted off the field, and even Steelers fans were pulling for him, you could hear one fan shout “hang in there buddy”. The play occurred with 3:29 left in the game and Pittsburgh leading 23-14. McGahee scored both Baltimore touchdowns and had rushed for 60 yards on 20 carries. He also caught two passes for 13 yards. Our thoughts and prayers are with McGahee and his family, hopefully he makes a swift recovery.
