Less than 24 hours since the Jets last lost Eric Mangini has been fired. The NY Jets have lost 4 of their last 5 games to end the season. The youngest coach in the league when he was hired as a 34- year-old, Mangini went 10-6 in his first season and reached the playoffs only to lose to the Patriots 37-16. One source inside the Jets said he had “lost” the team. Basically the players weren’t responding to him. The team has not mentioned who their future coach will be yet.
Here is the playoff scenario for the Philadelphia Eagles. The Eagles not only have to beat the Dallas Cowboys who are hell bent on making the NFL playoffs. Their is also some destiny that is out of their hands. They also need the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to lose to the Oakland Raiders, I repeat Oakland Raiders. Not only that small miracle, they also need the Vikings or the Bears to lose their games today. Don’t get your hopes too high Eagles fans.
This is an amazing video of Bob Sapp vs Antonio Nogueira! I just can’t believe what happens in this fight! It is an Pride MMA fight. Nogueira also known as “Minotauro” is in UFC now and fights on many cards for them. He fought Frank Mir tonight in UFC 92 but lost the fight.
It is so shocking that he was able to allude Sapp so many times and the vicious onslaught he encountered in the beginning. You can’t help but pull for Nogueira because it is as close as you get to David vs Goliath! Fans definitely got their money’s worth!

This Blokus Board Game has become the new holiday craze! Blokus is a strategy board game that is easy to learn but is not so easy to win. Players put down transparent tetris shaped pieces onto the board trying to block their opponent. The only caveat to placing a piece is that it may not lie adjacent to your other pieces, but instead must be placed touching at least one corner of your pieces already on the board.
I’m sure this game sold a lot of units during Christmas. You can buy the board game at your local Wal Mart. There is also a free online version of the game that you can play multiplayer or single player. It sounds fun and I look forward to trying it out some time.
Notre Dame finally won a bowl game after a nine bowl losing streak. They hadn’t won a bowl since the 1994 Cotton Bowl. They beat Hawaii in the Hawaii Bowl this year and have much to celebrate.
In the Cotton Bowl game of ‘94 they played against Texas A&M who they had beaten the previous year. They won again 24-21. Lou Holtz was the Irishmen’s coach and Texas A&M had Bob Davie as their Defensive Coordinator and R.C. Slocum as their Head Coach. A lot has changed in those 14 years. Interestingly Bob Davie ending up coaching the defense for the Irish the next year and eventually became head coach of in 1997.

Mark Everett Child Star from Pee Wee’s Big Adventure and Stand and Deliver was shot and killed by police last night. His real name is Manuel Benitez, and he was in a 2 hour hostage standoff involving his seven year old son in a Chinese restaurant that led to his death.
His son Benjamin is from his previous relationship with Stephanie Spears. When he met Stephanie he hadn’t acted in 8 years and hide his past from her. He had been dealing marijuana and once she found out she tried to leave and take Benjamin with her. Mark bludgeoned her to death with a dumbbell to stop her. He was on America Most Wanted and there was a $20,000 award out for his capture. He had been on the run since 2004. I feel sorry that Benjamin had to go through all that stuff, he will definitely need therapy.
Lance Armstrong is expecting a baby with girlfriend Anna Hansen. Armstrong had three children with his former wife Kristen using in vitro with sperm frozen before he underwent chemotherapy. The couple is expecting in June of next year. They say this has made their holidays much better knowing a child is on the way. Lance said “Anna and I are thrilled to confirm that we are expecting in June and our families are ecstatic and grateful.” It’s nice to see that the seven time consecutive Tour De France winner is doing well and has overcome so much.
The winter holiday Festivus starts today! It was started in an Seinfeld episode and has actually garnered many followers. It officially starts on December 23. George Costanza’s dad started the holiday when “Many Christmases ago, I went to buy a doll for my son. I reached for the last one they had, but so did another man. As I rained blows upon him, I realized there had to be another way.”
That’s how the new holiday Festivus began. There are four activities/rules to enjoy on this holiday:
-The Airing of Grievances Each person tells everyone else all the ways they have disappointed him or her over the past year. Preferably, the Airing of Grievances should begin with the phrase “I’ve got a lot of problems with your people!”
-The Festivus Dinner Usually includes a meatloaf or spaghetti with red sauce. There tends to be heavy drinking of bourbon, rum, beer or wine.
-Feats of Strength Guests must wrestle the head of the household to the floor, and no one can go home until he or she is pinned to the ground.
-The Festivus Pole Instead of an ornate Christmas tree, the Festivus house includes a modest metal pole with a high strength-to-weight ratio.
Gifts are not really a necessity, but you can donate to various groups/charities.
