Cubs Sign Aaron Miles

The Chicago Cubs have just signed Aaron Miles today. They signed him to a 2 year deal worth $4.9MM. This could possibly allow the Cubs to trade Mark DeRosa. This is according to the Chicago Sun Times and ESPN Radio’s Bruce Levine. The 32-year-old Miles batted .317 in 134 games for St. Louis last year, and has a .289 career average and .329 on-base percentage. He should make a great addition to the Chicag Cubs ball club.

Matt Dillon Arrested

Matt Dillon, the star from Wild Things and There’s Something About Mary was arrested for excessive speeding charges. He was driving in the town of Newbury, Vermont when he was pulled over for going 106 mph. The actor was photographed, finger printed, and released on 10pm, Tuesday night. Why was he in Vermont though? I guess the L.A. cops know him and his sports cars all too well.

Charles Barkley Arrested

I can’t believe this! Charles Barkley was arrested on suspicion of DUI charges. Barkley was my childhood hero growing up. Is there no pro athlete who leads a clean lifestyle? It seems the officer who pulled over smelled alchohol on Barkley’s breath and asked him to do a sobriety test, which he failed. He declined a breathalizer test but had to take the blood test. The results were not immediatley available. After Barkley was processed, he was cited and released. His car was impounded and he left in a cab. “There was nothing unusual about how he was taken into custody,” said Gilbert police Lt. Eric Shuhandler. The arrest took place in the older parts of Scottsdale. The former Auburn player was inducted into the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame last month. But he’s still a knucklehead!

Shanahan Fired

After failing to make the playoffs, Mike Shanahan has been fired. This is another shocking firing of an NFL head coach. Shanahan had gone a paltry 24-24 over the past three seasons with the Denver Broncos. On top of that the Broncos were on top of the AFC West until they lost three of their last four games. Shanahan had seen glory days with the Broncos such as winning SuperBowl XXXII and XXXIII with Denver in 97′ and 98′. Evidently you can have a ‘break even’ record in the NFL and still get fired. Denver became the first team since divisional play started in 1967 to blow a three-game lead with three games left. I don’t see who could take over the organization and vastly improve them, possibly Bill Cowher, but nothing is assured at this point.

Superhero Registry

On a lighter side of the news, it turns out there is a World Superhero registry! You can register your name and costume within the registry as long as it doesn’t infringe on any copyrighted or taken names/costumes. There are names like Razorhawk, Superbarrio, and Angle Grinder Man! I find it amusing and odd because you know some people out there are going to try and fight crime and end up getting in trouble for being a vigilante or worse. Police are concerned of the rapidly rising superhero registry. Hopefully people take it as just being creative and having fun, maybe I’ll come up with a superhero name! One things for sure, there won’t be a World Villain registry service any time soon.

Darren Stephens Blue Man Group Actor Arrested

Darren Stephens of the popular blue man group was arrested recently. He was arrested while he was with the assistant principal of Maine East High School, Michael Pressler. Apparently they were charge with public indecency along a lakefront in the Chicago Park Disctrict. They had been caught engaging in a sex act and were brought in with no incident. Both are slated to appear in Misdemeanor Court on Feb. 6 at 1:30 p.m., police said. This will definitely ruin the image of the Blue Man Group as wholesome entertainment.

The Sasquatch Gang

The Sasquatch Gang is a classic movie it used to be known as the Sasquatch Dumpling Gang. It stars Justin Long before he was famous Jeremy Sumpter, and Carl Weathers. It was also directed by Tim Skousen, who was first assistant director on Napolean Dynamite so it kinda has the same tone and dialogue as that film. Definitely a lesser known film that would make a good addition to anyone’s DVD collection.

Here is a trailer for the film:

Hunter Burgan

Hunter Burgan is the third and current bassist for AFI. He was also in a band called The Force before he joined AFI. He was a drummer and founding member of the band The Frisk who played their final show in December 2005. He is a vegan and just got engaged to Zooey Deschanel, the young star from the “Yes, Man” movie with Jim Carrey. The two apparently got engaged over the weeked of December 20th. The couple have reportedly been together less than a year.

Grand Theft Auto 4

To all the doubters as to whether Grand Theft Auto 4 for the PC would be any good… you were sorely mistaken. This game takes it to the next level! For those of us with high end computers who do not yet have 300-400 dollar consoles, this is the next best thing.

The graphics in the game are astonishing, everything is smoothly rendered and all the cars and vehicles looks amazing. You need a 728MB graphics card to fully appreciate and run all the stellar graphics. Even if your not into graphics, the storyline is great. Much better than it’s predecessors. You don’t start out working for the mob, your more of an ex-soldier who ends up getting a nudge towards working with the underworld and it’s shady dealings. You come to the U.S. to check on your cousin and find out he’s not living the American dream that you thought he was. I won’t give away anything else about the plot, since it is phenomenal. There is a lot more depth of character and relational atmosphere. You are more connected, through mobile phones, internet, and sometime just bumping into new people outside of missions.
The game play has re-playability in mind. The map is huge with two extra areas to unlock, you have to find restaurants and comedy clubs in order to have them on your map. There is GPS to help you navigate your way through gigantic Liberty City. LC was always my favorite of the various locations throughout the GTA series. So a return to the old city is nostalgic, but it is way more immersible atmosphere than in the first Grand Theft Auto.

There are some return features and some that went away. You can still do Police Vigilante missions which are fun, but they made them more realistic. When you shooting at the criminals you will have a couple stars, but once you eliminate the suspects then your stars immediately go away. I don’t believe they have the taxi, EMT, or firefighter missions anymore. Either that or they are extremely hard to unlock.
The physics engine in the game is amazing! Your car move and reacts to turns and crashes with utter realism. Your car doesn’t explode if the engine isn’t hit, so if it is in the back and you smash the front, it won’t blow up. Also, your car doesn’t explode after a few crashes, like most cars in real life, it would take more than a few bumps and scratches to explode. The hand to hand fighting is life like as you block and throw punches and your opponents have a circle life meter. The gun fights I enjoy the best as now their is a ‘take cover’ option that make the gun fights realistic and last longer. Plus you have more accuracy when you crouch.

The game developers worked very hard to make the game realistic yet still fun for gamers. I have only tested the multiplayer a little, it seems to be all right, but I’ve heard a lot of gamers say it wasn’t up to their standards. This makes sense, as anyone can see most of the effort for GTA 4 must have gone into the single player mode.
