DeAngelo Hall Waived

How do you make a smart and stupid decision? Leave it to the Raiders and Al Davis to do just that. They waived their cornerback DeAngelo Hall who they just received 8 months earlier. This move will cost them 8 million dollars, but also free up some room to pay their better cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha. Hall had gained 3 interceptions this season but got beat deep on a lot of big plays. DeAngelo Hall was used to playing the zone defense under the Atlanta Falcons, and playing man to man defense probably messed up his timing and game play. We’ll see who picks up Hall, and whether he can improve a different organization.

Iverson Traded to Detroit

Allen Iverson has been traded from the Denver Nuggets to the Detroit Pistons. He was traded for Chauncey Billups and Antonio McDyess It is bizarre for a superstar to be traded this early in the season, but it happens. It seems like a fair trade, as Detroit needs a boosts at point guard to lead their team to an NBA Finals victory. Hopefully Iverson will feel motivated enough to play his best for the Pistons ball club.

Best Dallas Cowboys Quarterbacks of All Time

This is my list of top five best cowboys quarterbacks of all time.

5. Danny White: Starting quarterback for the cowboys in the 80’s. He was in one Pro Bowl and a three times All-Pro selection. He had a 81.7 passer rating and 21,959 yards passing. He took the team to two playoff games but lost to the St. Louis Rams in both.

4. Don Merideth: Went to three Pro Bowls and a two time All-Pro selection. He also won the Bert Bell award in 1966 as player of the year. He is in the cowboys ring of honor along side other Cowboy greats. Lead the cowboy to two championship games against the Packers, one being the “Ice Bowl”, but lost them both in heartbreaking fashion.

3. Tony Romo: Already has a passer rating of 97.6 with 59 touchdowns and only 34 picks. He has 7,746 yards passing. He is already been to the Pro Bowl twice. Romo set the record for season touchdown passes with 36 breaking Danny White’s record of 29. He has taken the Cowboys to the playoffs but lost one to the Seahawks and once to the Giants in the first rounds. Still has to prove himself in the playoffs but statistically is on par with the great cowboys quarterbacks. This is only his third year as starter for the Cowboys, so he has helped the team a lot in a short time.

2. Roger Staubach: Six time Pro Bowler and 2 times Superbowl Champion. Quite a gem for the Cowboys as he was picked in the tenth round of the draft. Won Player of the Year in 1971 and was a 5 times All-NFC Selection. He was also the MVP of Super Bowl VI.

1. Troy Aikman: Nearly edges out Staubach because of his stats and one more Super Bowl win. Sure Aikman was more rigid than Rodger, but he never lost a Superbowl like his counterpart did. He was a six time Pro Bowler as well. Plus he was a three times All-Pro selection. He maintained a career passer rating of 81.6 with 32,942 passing yards, a record that will be hard to break for Romo. He definitely had talent around him with Emmitt Smith and Michael Irvin which helped. Don’t forget a great tight end in Jay Novachek. Romo has a great tight end in Witten, a great back in Marion Barber, and now two great wide receivers in Terrell Owens and Roy Williams. Unfortunately they have already lost 4 games this season and a dropping to the bottom of their division. A Super Bowl ring looks unlikely for Romo this year.

Alice in Wonderland Movie in Production

This remake of a classic will have CGI and live action in the film. Johnny Depp will star as the Mad Hatter and Anne Hathaway will play the White Queen. Helena Bonham Carter I think will do a great job as the Red Queen as she looks and has the temperament to pull it off.

This Tim Burton film will obviously be darker and more twisted than the original Disney version. That is Burton’s way with almost all of his films. It may not be as twisted as the video game “Alice” but will still not be as friendly as the the cartoon version. There is definitely room for a lot of creative cinematography with the whole film being a dream sequence. A relative unknown Mia Wasikowska will play Alice, from here pictures she really captures the innocent unaware look that Alice should have. Hopefully Burton will get the most from his Australian actress in her big debut.

Crispin Glover from the “Back to the Future” series as George McFly, is playing the Knave of Hearts. He has always been kinda of creepy and I think Burton will roll with that.

It will be interesting to see what route Depp takes with the Mad Hatter role. Will he go bonkers and act super goofy, or will he play the subtle sly insanity that is more frightening. He just played a insane role as Sweeney Todd and did a fine job at that.

Linda Wolvertoon is adapting the screenplay which is worrisome. The best screenplay she has done so far was Lion King, and not much else. She worked on the “Teen Wolf” and “Ewok” TV series which is not a good sign. Hopefully Tim Burton oversees and makes appropriate adjustments to the script to fit his dark nature, that fans want to see in his films.

The cinematographer Dariusz Wolski worked on Eagle Eye and Sweeney Todd and did a marvelous job on those movies. There is also a giant Art and Visual Effects department working on this film so you know it’s going to have great CGI creatures and sets. Michael Lantieri has worked on films such as Lemony Snicket’s: Series of Unfortunate Events, The Polar Express and other great films. Paramount should provide a big enough budget for the special effects department to make this the best Alice in Wonderland film. The film is not due out until March 5, 2010. Hopefully they bump up that release date a little sooner.

Texas Tech Defeats Texas

The best big 12 game ever! It even tops when Vince Young ran into the end zone against USC. Texas played horrible against a shockingly good Texas Tech Defense and Offensive Line in the first half. I had heard rumors they were good, but with Mike Leach that usually means mediocre. Not this time. It seemed Graham Harrell had all day to throw and hooked up with nine different receivers!

Texas started playing better and getting their rhythm in the second half. Jordan Shipley had a 45 yard punt return for a touchdown in the third quarter. Colt McCoy connected with Malcolm Williams, a freshman, for a 91 yard reception in the fourth quarter. This started turning the momentum for Texas a bit.

On the Longhorns last play of the game Colt drove up the field and then Vondrell ran the ball in for the touchdown with 1:29 left on the clock. Enough time to score? Plenty, as Tech drove up the field as quick as I’ve ever seen a team do. Tech’s only mistake was a bobbled pass for a near interception. On the play right after that Harrell throw a pass over the cornerback’s head right to Michael Crabtree who broke a tackle on the edge of the sideline and ran the dagger through the Longhorns heart. With one second to go the riley Tech crowd rushed the field only to give their team two penalties. Tech kicked off from their own 7 1/2 yard line but Texas couldn’t run it back and history was made. This is the first time Texas Tech has beaten a number one team.

Javon Ringer’s Heisman Chances?

This Michigan State runningback leads the NCAA in rushing yards with 1,427 and touchdowns with 18. With all the quarterbacks in the Big 12 like Graham Harrell, Colt McCoy, and Sam Bradford. How will Ringer compete with the numbers they are putting up? Well his team has two losses which hurts him right now. But if those Big 12 teams beat each other up at the end of the year and end up with 2 losses each then his chances get much better. This is likely to happen as Texas Tech plays at OU and there is a Big 12 championship at the end of the season. He needs to keep putting up good numbers like 2 TD’s and 200 yards in each of the remainder of his games this season to have a fighting chance.

David Beckham on loan to AC Milan

David Beckham had signed for an excessive amount with the LA Galaxy at 250 million dollars for 5 years. Apparently this is not paying off for him as his endorsements slid 6.6 percent in 2007 from endorsers like Pepsi, Addidas, and Gilette. Now the team is loaning him out to AC Milan for three months. There is a rumor that this could lead to a trade with the Italian club. Considering the LA Galaxy have been playing horrible lately and not improving Beckham’s image, I’m sure he would want to be a part of a winning team again.

Kevin Garnett Sets Record

Kevin Garnett set a record against the Chicago Bulls on Friday Night. It wasn’t a scoring or rebound record like you’d think. He set the record for the youngest player to reach 1,000 games mark. He played better than his first game as a rookie. He had 18 points and 10 rebounds for a double double. Now that’s longevity right there, he may be 48 and still getting double doubles, he’s just that athletic!
