Oregon State surprises USC Trojans

The USC Trojans lost on the road to the Oregon State Beavers on Thursday night football. They lost to an unranked team that didn’t even have a shred of hope to defeat these rock stars of football.

This was no last second comeback or triple overtime nail biter. The Beavers were up by 21 at the half! I repeat 21 at the half! As I watch this I thought to myself what did the Trojans lay down and die?

There is always a reason for upsets but this seems to be an insane one. They were running the ball all over this ferocious defense. They have a tiny running back named Jacquizz Rogers. Who?? He had over 180 yards rushing and two touchdowns!

Sometimes it appeared to be fate for the Beavers as they basically had a tipped ball go right to their receiver instead of the defense, this lead to their third touchdown before the half as time was ticking out.

The Trojans ending up trying to comeback but it was too late. The Beavers had already stolen the game with an interception in the fourth quarter. Pete Carroll basically admitted he was outplayed. Maybe he didn’t game plan for Mighty Mouse the running back.

Despite this Mark Sanchez, quarterback of the Trojans still had 3 touchdowns and didn’t play a horrible game. He only had one interception. Their defense and running game just sputtered out before they could jump-start it.

I believe this loss will drop the Trojans to at least 11th or 12th in the rankings. They will not be playing for a national championship since they have such an easy schedule the rest of the way. I think Notre Dame could win most of the games left on the Trojan’s schedule. Even if they win the rest of their games the voting committee is almost obligated to put in someone with a tougher conference. Even the Big Ten might be tougher at this point. One announcer at the USC game the week before had been saying this was “the best USC team (he’d) ever seen”. He won’t be repeating those words this year.

We also won’t be seeing another typical USC Quarterback win the Heisman.

The PAC-10 is horrible this year and will not send any team to the National Championship. It is most likely going to be a Big 12 and a SEC team in the Big Game and you can quote me on that.

Hearts of Iron 2

Not many people have heard of this game. It is from a small but quality publisher Paradox Interactive they make mostly strategy games. If you are a hardcore gamer like me and want to challenge yourself this is the game for you. It will take some time to learn and there is alot of micro management. But it is worth the learning curve once you get the hang of it. The game is set in World War II, what better setting for strategy and leading your country to greatness. You can be nearly any country, not just the main countries involved. You could be Argentina and try and take over South America and the U.S. It is possible with enough time, well placed attacks, and built up industries. Well the U.S. part is hard, but enough about that. There is also multiplayer for network as well as online. I give this game a 10/10 because it does what it was made to do, and that is create a diplomatic/war game that is exciting and fun.

My beef with EA

They are the worst company as well as game publishers ever! They buy out small companies like Bullforg who made a tight game called Dungeon Keep 2 and they scrap the sequel to the game. They also make a Lord of the Rings Middle Earth 2 game that you can’t play multiplayer networked on! Where’s the fun in that? They also made that Godfather game for consoles that was linear as playing the movie and not at all as open as GTA. Once you killed all the families, there is no one left to fight. No replayablity there. Their number one offense however was buying out Origin who owned Ultima Online. They destroyed UO and there has never been a game that could come close to that one. Now they are making Warhammer online, well excuse me if I don’t go rush to the store for that one! Everyone will get sick of it in two weeks. That’s my rant and you don’t have to agree, I just happen to be correct.

How are Titans standing Tall?

Talk about shocking 4-0 teams! The Tenesse Titans lost Vince Young to injury and then he had the whole depression saga. Their backup is Kerry Collins, who is a wee bit past his prime. I believe the running game with sleeper Chris Johnson is helping them stay afloat. They also have a very good defense that is keeping the pressure off their offense. Justing Gage and Brandon Jones are their best receivers? Hmmm ill be shocked to see a game where they post 300 yards passing. They still haven’t broke the 200 yard mark. Maybe you can win a Super Bowl with a good defense and running back ala Baltimore Ravens 2001 Superbowl.

Blindness: I’d see it

Somehow this movie reminds me of Children of Men or something to that effect. It may not end up being popular in the box office but might become a cult classic. I like movies where the government is out to get everyone and only a few people can fight against it. This blindness epidemic is obviously created by someone (haha I wonder who) and only Julianne Moore can see. Looks to have great acting and a plot I already want to know more about. Hopefully its fast paced and doesn’t have a dumb twist like The Happening. Comes out tommorrow!

Spore is Not Evolved Enough

When I heard about this game over a year ago I was pretty stoked. It has been in the wood works for over three years, so you would expect greatness. It had all the makings of a great game. You could evolve from a little cell all the way up to a sentient being who travels the galaxy in a spaceship. There are five stages in the game the cell, creature, tribal, civilization, and space stage. You can create your own creature and content throughout all but the space stage(besides your ship).

It sounds cool, and it is for the first day or so. Then it starts to get boring in space, everyone says they love the space mode, but wait till you play it enough. You have to travel back and forth preventing eco disaster every ten min which gets monotonous. On top of that the wars with other nations aren’t that fun and are more of a task than enjoyment. There are better space games out there likes Sins of a Solar Empire.

If you try to play the game over again from the beginning it still isn’t that fun. The only phase that isn’t similar to other games are the cell and creature phase. But you can only play that so many times before it gets boring. In the original game trailer the creature phase was more like the Discovery Channel. More gritty and raw. The animal would actually tear the meat off its prey. But now it is more like a childish cartoon. It is literally hard to make your character look intimidating. Plus every time you die you just spawn again in the same level. What kind of challenge is that? You can’t lose essentially. While kids may enjoy that, real gamers want to challenge themselves. Even with higher difficulty you still can’t lose and their are little setbacks if any till the space age. If this game had been multiplayer where you can challenge your friends creatures to battles, that would add more to the replayability.

Sadly, this is the first time Will Wright has ever let me down. It’s like he gave a half-hearted attempt at this one. Plus they made the game too kiddy like for the extreme gamer. Its like a game you would get your kids to keep em busy for a long while. The desigin and controls are easy enough for them to learn almost instantly. I give it a 6/10.

The Express

The Express seems very exciting and dramatic. I didn’t know the first African American to win the Heisman played for Syracuse. But you learn something new every day. Randy Quaid is in it so you know its going to be a success. Hopefully it has a good plot and football scenes. Because most football movies have trouble getting their scenes to look acurate while keeping the cinematic feel. The lead seems to be a relatively unkown actor but we’ll see if he pulls it off. Plenty of unknown actors have suprised me before.

BYU Football on a Roll

The BYU Cougars are 4-0 and could possibly go undefeated. They annihilated UCLA 59-0 which shocked everyone nearly to death. Plus they have an easy Mountain West schedule where there toughest opponent is rival Utah. I would like to see them play someone like Alabama or Missouri just to see how they would hold up. I think they would loose to either 45-14 or something near those numbers. Now if BYU gets into the national championship alot of people would complain that they didn’t play anyone tough in their schedule. After all the PAC-10 is as weak as its ever been now that USC has lost. So beating Washington would be a minimal trophy. Playoff questions would definitely arise again.
